IRC HowTo
The tutorial here is a simple quick tutorial of how to log on to #utos to join our weekly meetings.
This tutorial is based upon Gaim. If you do not have Gaim, you can get it here.
First things first, launch Gaim.
Here’s the buddy list 
and the account list.
Add an account by clicking the Add button from the Accounts window.
Follow the prompts adding your own unique username and password, but keep the server line the same.
Click the Advanced Tab at the top of the Add Account window.
Make sure the port is 6667, add your username and Real name as I’ve done.
Clicking Save will automatically attempt to log in.
This is the NickServ. NickServ’s job is to help you join a channel. To join #utos, type /join #utos.
