• Just yesterday, at TenX Networks, we held ‘hackUTOS2, the return of the hack’!  We had some really good hacking and fun.  Lot’s of peanuts, green frisbees and good food.

A very large thank you goes out to the gang at TenX Networks for making the space available and providing lunch and drinks.

So here’s the pictures from the event, held on August 21, 2010:

Plans for hackUTOS3 are targeted for November/December 2010.  If you know of a venue or wish to help run an implementation of hackUTOS in your area, please let us know with a comment!

    Cheers,

    Clint

  • This past Saturday was the first ever #hackUTOS – A Code Festival, dubbed ‘#hackUTOS 1.0″ and boy was it a grand success!

Over the 9 hour event, we had 30+ people attend, stop by and hack their little hearts out!!

Several of those folks stayed the entire 9 hours, which makes this sort of community hackfest so successful.  We’ll definitely be doing a #hackUTOS 2.0 very soon, so watch here (and http://hack.utos.org) for updates and announcements.

There was tons of junk food, soda and an awesome burrito bar from the East Bay Cafe!!

At the end of #hackUTOS 1.0, the community chose an individual who did the most for free and open source software and he was awarded the #hackUTOS ‘Wrench of Pride’.

    Others had great #hackUTOS pride:

The entire collection of photos is available on our flickr page.

Please thank David Owen (fugue88), as he did an amazing job of organization.  Also, a special thanks to Dave Mitchell, Doc Hodges, Nate Conger and John Jolly for helping us cover security and networking.  I’d also like to thank our volunteers for their help as needed.

And, last but not least, our sponsors XMission and Stackable, whom without their help, this event would have been less than stellar!

See you all at #hackUTOS 2.0 in a few months!  Watch http://hack.utos.org for updates.

    Cheers,

    Clint

  • Geek lunch this month was awesome!  In Salt Lake City, we had 25 people attend, I heard that Roosters in Layton had a small crowd of 5.  Many from Code Greene and XMission came to enjoy a meal.  A special thanks goes out to XMission’s Pete Ashdown for picking up the tab for the entire group in SLC!

Below are some pictures from the event: (full set of pictures is on flickr)

    See you all next month!

    Cheers,

  • In the immortal words of sontek, “Tonight was amazing!”

The Multi-Distro Release Party was a grand success. Around 30+ people, plenty of drinks, food and oh yeah, three Linux distros were discussed along with one proprietary-ish OS. Fun was had by all and even a new Linux user came and got Ubuntu installed, Christer must be proud.

Heartsbane brought his apocalypse box to install Fedora. It was quite the sight!

Shauna Theobald from the OSTC provided the pizza and decided also that it would be fun to surprise yours truly with an early *surprise* birthday party. All I can say is that I was “blown away”, and “thank you”. That was a pretty nice thing to do…

And while we were all having fun, the kids were getting into it too!

As it stands, the Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, OpenBSD and Mac OS X Release Party was a grand success. Here’s all of the pics from my camera.
