Utah’s Open Source Growth

I am personally so excited to see the growth of Open Source in Utah. We have such a vibrant community here and I think we can be so much more. Bruce Perens, this years keynote speaker has the vision to lead a national or international explosion of Open Source in Business and Community. I think we all can benefit from hearing what he thinks about Utah and Open Source, about the economic benefits and limitations of Open Source in both the business and user group communities. And because of this, I think Bruce’s presentation is very well timed.

I also believe that the Open Source community in Utah is powerful. We have the power to change how Open Source is percieved, not only in Utah, but around the world. I believe in the benefits of Open Source for individuals, businesses, and the community. I believe in what we’re doing as a whole to help break the average user from the chains of proprietary (and limited) software.

  • I believe that businesses want Open Source Software. I also believe it can make them more profitable.
  • I believe that Open Source is the solution for the future in many other ways than just software.
  • I believe that Community is how the software world will improve, and using Open Source methodologies will bring us together.
  • I believe in Utah Open Source.

So I invite you all to come to the Utah Open Source Conference 2007 - The Convergence… I invite you to expand your horizons, and learn about what amazing things are going on in Utah’s Open Source community. I invite you all to attend what’s promising to be the premier Open Source event in Utah, The Utah Open Source Conference. We’ll be there to help you find a seat at the keynote and at the conference to make sure you get the best experience.

Bruce Perens Keynote - Utah Open Source Conference - Absolutely Free

It appears there might be a bit of confusion about the keynote at the beginning of the Utah Open Source Conference and we want to clear it up so you all can come.

First of all, the keynote is September 6, 2007, 7-9pm and all are invited to attend.

The keynote given by Bruce Perens is absolutely free to the first 100 people who register. In other words, there is no obligation to register for the full conference. This means you may come to the September 6, 2007 event without signing up for anything but the keynote.

You have more choice, more options and less obligations. Sure, we’d like you to come and visit the full conference on September 7 and September 8, and hope that you will. In fact, if you come to the free keynote and like what you see, we’d hope you will sign up that night.

There’s limited seating, however, which is why you’ve got to register for the keynote. Bruce has prepared an amazing presentation and Utah Open Source has a few surprises of their own in store. Come and enjoy a free night on Utah Open Source and learn about how Open Source can benefit your company, group, or yourself.

Its gonna be great night, and an even better weekend at the rest of the conference! We look forward to seeing you there.

Cheers,

Utah Open Source Conference 2007 Registration Opens

Registration for the Utah Open Source 2007 is open tonight. If you’ve been waiting to join us for what is truly shaping up to be a great conference, sign up now!

Those of us who’ve spent the past year working hard to bring you this conference would like to invite you to register. Registrations are now being accepted.

http://register.utosc.org

There are two major parts to this conference:

Keynote

The Open Source Definition author Bruce Perens will launch the conference with a free, yes I said free, keynote speech on September 6, 2007 for the first 100 people to register.

If you are not among the first 100 registrants for the keynote, don’t worry. You can still come to the keynote as part of a full conference package. Make sure to choose the keynote when you register. We have room for many more at the keynote, though the exact number will be determined at a later date.

Conference

On September 7 and 8, we have more than 30 planned presenters, most of which are from Utah. Many of these presenters are big names in Utah Technology, including names like Phil Windley, Tim Riker and many more. The full list will be available very soon on the registration site.
