It takes many kinds of people to make a Open Source Software work.  It takes some coders, some bug fixers, some documenters, some designers.  What role will you play?

UTOS Project Day is about :

    • working on a project that you otherwise may not have time.
    • learning a new technology by joining others.
    • networking with other smart people who like to create stuff.
    • junk food during up to 8 hours of hacking on your favorite stuff!
    • being able to sit in a corner and focus on your project without interruption.
    • providing the best open source software hacking space.

Come on down this Saturday and hang out with other geeks.  We’ll provide you space to hack, snacks, lunch and plenty of projects to come and learn!

  • Oh, the joy of the rush.  As we all are procrastinators, everything has to wait until the LAST minute.  Not that it’s all bad, because we still have to get our printed programs, t-shirts, networking and other such stuff done at the LAST moment no matter what, because we’re not sure of certain things about our attendees, venue and the like.

We’re excited though, to have everyone on board and raring to go.  We’ve got over 60 presentations, a ton of events and activities for everyone, plus there’s food and fun on Saturday.  Let me highlight a couple we’ve waited until the LAST minute to sort out:

Are you a LAST minute kind of person?  If so, you might like that we’re providing you a LAST minute deal to register for UTOSC 2010.  If you’ve been watching for a deal, consider using LAST as a promo code.  It only LASTs until midnight tonight!!

  • Well, we’ve talked about just about everything else now.  And the Utah Open Source Conference 2010 is just about here! So what have we talked about?

But there’s one really, really, really important session that no Geek should miss!

    Geek Dinner!!

Yes, that’s right, Geek Dinner at UTOSC is an event not to be missed!! In fact, this event is open to anyone and everyone who wants to spend a good evening with their geek friends who’ve turned up for UTOSC 2010!

    Location: Texas Road House

If you love a steak, we’ve got the place for you.  In fact, if you are a veggie eater, there are plenty of choices too.  From cherry limeades to marshmallow smothered sweet potatoes, Texas Road House is the place where geeks from all over Utah will be this Friday night.

Texas Road House (map and info)
200 West 10600 South (@ South Towne Mall, west side)
    Sandy, UT 84070-4144

When: Friday, October 8 @ 8:30pm til close!

Come join us all from 8:30pm until the Texas Road House kicks us out and sends us a packin’!!!  If you wish to come a few minutes earlier, there should be plenty of seating for more than 100 geeks, nerds and their supporters!

So come on down, enjoy some grub* and party til dawn! Well, maybe not that long :)

    Cheers,

    Clint

    * – Please note that UTOS is organizing this event, but individuals are responsible for paying for their own meal ticket.

  • As we did in 2008 and 2009, from 10am-2pm on Saturday, October 9, we’re going to be making a very special effort around families.  If you have registered for a Full Access Pass, we invite you to bring your family for the Family related activities and presentations.  We have presentations on GIMP (photo-editing), Internet Filtering at Home and we’ll have a special treat as three young girls come and tell us about their experience with free and open source software.   We’ll be holding activities like a GPS treasure hunt and a family oriented Try-It Lab workshop.  Family members need not register to attend on Saturday, just show up and have some fun along with a registered Attendee!

Don’t forget to attend the presentation from Howard Tayler, creator of Schlock Mercenary.  This presentation promises to be fun for the whole family.  Plus, Howard will be around the rest of the day to draw comics and socialize with everyone!

Come for a Pizza Party, sponsored by the Fedora Project

In addition to all the activities we have scheduled for Family Day, the folks over at Fedora have pitched in a ton of pizza and drinks.  Starting at about 11:45am until about 1pm, there will be pizza available for everyone at the conference, though it is first come, first served.  Come and grab a slice and share a conversation with family and friends.

As the Utah Open Source Conference winds down around 6pm, we’ll be setting up the boardgames to play.  We’ve got quite a few games available, and you can bring your own as well.  We play pretty late into the night, so come on by and enjoy a nice relaxing game of Settlers of Catan, Carcassone or Perudo while discussing the weekends activities and fun!
